An old uninsulated door on an attached garage was replaced with an insulated steel door in a wood-look finish, with new tracks, springs and weather seals.
The problem
The original door was single-skin steel with dented panels and tired seals, and the room above the garage stayed cold all winter. The owners wanted a warmer door that looked like wood without the upkeep of a real wood door.
What we did
- Measured the opening, headroom and side room and reviewed insulation options
- Removed the old door after safely releasing its springs
- Installed the new door with tracks, springs sized to its weight, and perimeter seals
- Reconnected the opener and tested balance, auto-reverse and photo eyes
The result
The new door seals evenly along the floor and sides, and the garage stays noticeably less drafty. The wood-look finish suits the white siding, and the existing opener handles the door without strain.
